To deal with avian flu, the South-West sector announces a total shutdown of production during the holiday period.

The measure was expected. This Tuesday, the federation of foie gras producers in the South-West (Palso) announced a crawl space for breeders who either raise ducks or force-feed them but do not do both tasks on their farm, for a period of time. running from December 15 to January 15.

Concretely, the feeders will not work during this period (and will therefore arrange to no longer accept animals). Breeders will also have to reduce their activity. The objective is to limit avian flu contamination as much as possible, at a time of year when the risk is historically the highest.

For the federation, “These voluntary measures are unanimously recognized by public authorities, local communities and veterinary services”. They will make it possible to limit the density of active farms within a municipality, knowing that density increases the risk of spreading the virus.
