  • King Charles III arrived in France on Wednesday for a three-day state visit, organized with great fanfare and under high security, to celebrate the strengthening of diplomatic ties between the United Kingdom and France. Scheduled for March, this visit had to be postponed due to demonstrations against pension reform.
  • After his descent from the Champs-Elysées and a sumptuous dinner at Versailles on Wednesday, Charles III will deliver a speech on Thursday morning to French parliamentarians gathered in the Senate. He will be welcomed at the Palais du Luxembourg around 10:40 a.m. by the President of the Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, and the President of the Senate, Gérard Larcher. The latter will each take turns saying a few words, before Charles III speaks shortly after 11 a.m. for around ten minutes.
  • During a chat, our journalist Philippe Bernard will then answer your questions, around the issues of this state visit and about the recent development of diplomatic relations between Paris and London.
  • Following his speech to the Senate, the British sovereign must go to Saint-Denis in the afternoon, one of the major venues for the Paris 2024 Games, for a meeting around the theme of sport with associations and personalities. Also planned is a stroll by the British king and queen, as well as the French president and the first lady, on the square in front of Notre-Dame de Paris, before an informal meeting between the French president and the king, at the end of the day.
  • On Friday, the British royal couple will end their trip in Bordeauxafter visiting a vineyard and meeting firefighters who took part in the fight against the fires which ravaged the Landes and Gironde department in the summer of 2022.
