Follows Josef Mock – Gerhard Derler is the new head of Grazer Karlau

The Karlau prison in Graz has a new head: Brigadier Gerhard Derler was officially installed on Friday and is taking over from Josef Mock. Derler has 33 years of experience in the penal system and spent his entire judicial career in the Graz-Karlau correctional institution.

Derler began his legal career in 1990 and rose to become, among other things, head of the Department of Public Administration and Kitchen Services, head of the economics department, head of the day-release system and the branch office in Lankowitz in western Styria. Most recently, he worked as deputy head of the Graz-Karlau prison, in personal union with the head of the economic department. “Brigadier Derler knows the current conditions and challenges of the prison and the entire workforce like hardly anyone else,” praised the ministry. He not only enjoys it in the Graz-Karlau prison, but also in the entire penal system and the enforcement of measures, and I belong to the circle of outstanding managers.
