Didier Deschamps’ French team is preparing to face the modest Gibraltar team on Saturday evening in Nice, as part of qualifying for Euro 2024. The Blues, who have already obtained their ticket for the competition, are desperately looking for motivation after a faultless run.

Six victories in as many matches, qualification for Euro 2024 already obtained, and a match to be played on Saturday evening in Nice against the modest Gibraltar team, 198th nation out of… 207 in the Fifa rankings. All the ingredients are there to see the Blues very dissipated. This week at Clairefontaine, even coach Didier Deschamps seemed to run out of ideas to succeed in boosting his team…

“I understand that they are not worried about Saturday’s match. We must not dream: we may warn, or whatever… I was a player too, the conscious or the unconscious… We’re going to do the job,” agrees the tactician. “We can’t fight against naturalness either, but we will have to do it,” adds Didier Deschamps.

Finish in the top five

The French team still has at least one objective to achieve, that of finishing among the top five to be seeded in the Euro draw at the beginning of December. All that is missing is one victory, three points, to validate its place in the top hat.

A formality a priori for the Blues, who will play Saturday at the Allianz Riviera in Nice almost to a sold-out crowd. Only 3,000 tickets were still on sale Monday evening to see the world vice-champions in action.
