After being the victim of racism last weekend in Valencia, Real Madrid player Vinicius Jr received support from his teammates this Wednesday evening. The players entered the lawn with a number 20 flocked jersey, that of the Brazilian player.

Before their match against Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday (kick-off at 7:30 p.m.), the Real Madrid players entered the pitch with a shirt displaying the name and number 20 of their teammate Vinicius, victim of racist insults on Sunday at Valencia and absent due to a knock on a knee.

A banner was unfurled before kick-off in the south corner of the Santiago-Bernabéu, displaying “We are all Vinicius, that’s enough”, with a shirt bearing the image of the Brazilian on the side, noted a journalist from the AFP present at the stadium. Then the Real players posed with their backs to the photographers, in line, all displaying the name and number of Vinicius’ jersey, to the applause of the public.

Vinicius touched

Vinicius, present in civilian clothes behind them, also applauded, visibly touched by the gesture. In the 20th minute, in reference to the player’s number, the stadium sang “Vinicius, Vinicius”, and timidly applauded the winger, who thanked his supporters by giving a thumbs up and clapping in turn. The Brazilian is missing from the scoresheet as he was hit in the knee according to his coach Carlo Ancelotti.
