“For All Mankind” jumps ever further towards the present. After season 4 divided the people on Mars and Earth into two camps in 2003, the fate of the asteroid Goldilocks was decided in the season finale.

Through the plan devised by Dev Ayesa, Ed Baldwin and Co. were able to redirect the asteroid into the orbit of Mars. This forces Earth’s governments to invest significantly more money in space travel, as the extremely valuable asteroid must be gradually brought to Earth.

Bad news for politics, good news for Ed and Dev, who both want to spend the rest of their lives on Mars. The final scene of the season shows Dev in 2012 – still on Mars, which Goldilocks orbits. So how does the story continue in Season 5?

As of now, Season 5 of “For All Mankind” has not been confirmed. The fact that the authors of the series want a sequel can be clearly seen in the finale of season 4, but showrunner Ben Nedivi also spoke of a total of 7 planned seasons.

We already know that season 5 would take place in 2012, season 6 could then jump to 2020 and the final, seventh season will then take place in the year in which it is released, i.e. probably 2028. With luck, Apple will confirm TV+ soon a sequel, so nothing stands in the way of season 5 starting in 2025.

“For All Mankind” Season 5: Plot

There is no official synopsis for season 5 of “For All Mankind” yet, but season 4 does at least offer some clues about the sequel. Ed, Danielle and Margo survived the finale and should be back in season 5. Due to her now very old age and her gunshot wound, Danielle should be retired in season 5 and Ed would actually be ready for retirement, even if he is certainly making himself worthwhile and as useful as he can be on Mars.

Margo was taken away by the FBI in the final episode of Season 4. Not only does she now have to stand trial as a traitor for supplying the Russians with information in Season 3, she also confessed to having guided Goldilocks into Mars orbit – even though it was actually Aleida.

It’s very likely that Margo will find herself behind bars in Season 5, where she will likely spend the rest of her life. However, Margo could support NASA as an advisor in an emergency situation, which will certainly occur again in season 5.

While the North Korean crew on Mars can’t believe their luck when their families arrive on Mars in the Season 4 finale, Miles Dale’s fate is still unclear. His trade in contraband is no longer a secret, nor is the business in Mars stones, which could mean big problems for him and his wife. Has Miles already been punished when we see him again in Season 5?

The career paths of Kelly Baldwin and Aleida Rosales are also unclear. Like Ed, Kelly will probably stay on Mars permanently, as the living conditions on the red planet are significantly better for her son Alex than on Earth. Meanwhile, Aleida could have become very successful as the new managing director of Helios, because Dev will hardly be in charge of events on Earth from Mars. We won’t know for sure until 2025 at the earliest, when “For All Mankind” continues on Apple TV+.
