The ASUS portable console has a 512 GB SSD. A little light compared to the new version of the Steam Deck. ASUS reacts.

When the Steam Deck was released, only the “high-end” variant could count on a 512 GB SSD. The other two were equipped with a 64 GB eMMC or a 256 GB SSD.

ASUS therefore did not seem too stingy with also a 512 GB SSD to equip the ROG Ally. Except that since then, Valve has marketed a new Steam Deck which, like the AYANEO or GPD, runs on 1 TB.

When testing the AYANEO 2S, we were happy to see a more comfortable SSD. It is possible to get by with 512 GB, but it gives more versatility to have 1 TB or even 2 TB available.

ASUS therefore seems to have understood this and is even cutting back on its margins in order to gain cover for itself. In its press release, ASUS specifies that “ on the occasion of Black Friday, ASUS is offering with its partner France Accessories an exceptional exclusivity “.

Two versions of the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme console are actually on sale with 1 and 2 TB NVMe M.2 2230 SSD storage space.

Price between 849 and 929 euros

In this case, ASUS and France Accessories have set their sights on a very good model from Western Digital, the WD_Black SN770M which we had the opportunity to test and which seemed almost too efficient to us.

There is, however, no reason to complain, because not content with boosting storage capacity, ASUS does so without the machine’s sales price reaching new heights. The cost increases, but moderately, to 849 euros for the 1 TB version and 929 euros for the one equipped with the 2 TB SSD. In addition, ASUS specifies that, as on the 512 GB version, “ the trade-in offer for an old console ranging from €100 to €400 is valid for the purchase of one of the two new models in 1 and 2 TB of SSD storage “.

Even if the Steam Deck OLED still has certain advantages, this is rather very good news from ASUS. Note, however, that “ these versions will remain available while stocks last »… while the prices of 849 and 929 euros are only guaranteed until November 27.
