For Emmanuel Macron, a new speech with blurred outlines

This Friday, the day after the reshuffle, President Emmanuel Macron delivered a speech at the opening of the Council of Ministers during which he set the course and the main projects awaiting the government. By the end of the weekend, the Head of State will speak again to speak directly to the French.

“The course is clear, it is the independence of the country”. It is with these words that Emmanuel Macron inaugurated his first Council of Ministers, post reshuffle. A 25-minute speech during which the President spoke of the main projects awaiting the government of Elisabeth Borne, in whom the Head of State renewed his confidence.

By the end of the weekend, Emmanuel Macron will speak again to address, this time not to his ministers, but directly to the French. But at this point, what form the president will choose remains a mystery. Will he speak during a televised speech or through an interview, or even a simple letter to the French? “Anything is possible,” confides an adviser. According to information from Europe 1, this speech will take place this Saturday or Sunday morning, just before the departure of Emmanuel Macron for New Caledonia.

Reconnect with the French

And if the form remains vague, the substance of the discourse also raises several questions. What will the President of the Republic say a few hours after drawing up the government’s roadmap for the coming months? Especially since the ministers are already on the ground, like Gabriel Attal, new Minister of National Education, who went to a school affected by the riots in La Verrière in the Yvelines on Friday.

Emmanuel Macron’s objective will perhaps be to renew this link which has been weakened with the French since the pension reform and the riots. The Head of State is now displaying unprecedented unpopularity. Finally, the Head of State must take stock of the 100 days he had set himself. A report that the French have been waiting for since July 14, the date around which he was supposed to speak. Because Emmanuel Macron’s obsession is to turn this page which has damaged his image and to open a new chapter.
