For François Hollande, 2023 “must demonstrate the superiority of democracies”


The ex-president expressed his wishes for 2023, after a year of “great upheavals”, urging the French to “solidarity” and “national cohesion”.

” L’year that is ending has been one of great upheavals”, pointed out François Hollande in his New Year’s greetings. “The year which opens can be that of all dangers”, further warned the former president, citing “the escalation of conflicts on a planetary scale, the cruel repression of peoples, and in particular of women claiming their rights, the rise of inequalities in the face of the recession that is looming”.

According to him, “the answer cannot lie in closing down, withdrawing or exacerbating fears. It would be choosing regression and decline. On the contrary, 2023 must demonstrate the superiority of democracies over authoritarian regimes”.

“Let’s get rid of anything that could divide us unnecessarily”

François Hollande hopes to see Europe take “a new step in the coming year to ensure its security and fulfill its climate duties”. And for France, “the urgency is to promote solidarity that strengthens national cohesion. And a policy that engages the great transformation of our economy and our ways of life”.
