For GTA 6: Rockstar finishes work on popular online game

After the failure of GTA: The Trilogy, Rockstar now wants to put a lot of effort into GTA 6. As a result, work on Red Dead Online is now on hold.

Updated July 11, 2022:

Red Dead Online has to give way for GTA 6

Following rumors last week that Rockstar might be shelving planned remasters to focus on work on GTA 6, the studio has now issued a statement. An update on the official website states that the Work on Red Dead Online now reduced or discontinued to use the resources elsewhere.

This means that existing modes should be improved, but no new ones should be added. You will also have to do without major updates in the future.

It seems Rockstar Games is ready to step up its game after the debacle with GTA: The Trilogy, and the studio isn’t sure about the extremely high expectations of fans of GTA 6 quite aware:

“Over the past several years, we’ve steadily poured more development resources into the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise because we understand more than ever that we need to exceed player expectations and want this next installment to be the best , which can exist,” it says (source: Rockstar Games).

When GTA 6 will appear is still in the stars. Experts | expect a release in 2024/25.

A well-known leaker has commented on Rockstar Games’ upcoming plans. If his statements are correct, the studio is now putting some projects on hold.

Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4: work on remasters paused

After Rockstar launched GTA: The Trilogy at the end of 2021, there was a lot of criticism from the players. Stuttering, bugs and disappointing graphics were among other things the reason why there was even a sales stop in between. Additionally, the studio angered fans by announcing that it would take action against old fan mods and projects, even though they might have helped. Attempts are still being made to improve the three included classics GTA 3, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas with updates.

According to trusted GTA insider Tez, that could be why Rockstar is staying away from remasters for now and its future resources and energy to the next big game, Grand Theft Auto 6 direct. According to the site Kotaku, Tez’s statements also match what they’ve heard from their sources. So far, however, there has been no official statement from Rockstar Games (source: Kotaku).

GTA 6: Could this affect the release?

It is now officially known that the studio is working at full speed on the development of GTA 6. So far, insiders have assumed that the game will not be released before 2025/2026 – but if it is true that Rockstar is now putting more resources into it, the release could be pushed forward.
