About a year ago, Neil Druckmann, co-president of Naughty Dog, tried to make us believe that The Last of Us Part III might not exist. Today, the discourse has changed somewhat. In the documentary Grounded II, which provides behind-the-scenes information on the second opus, the person concerned was much more explicit about the chances of seeing it happen. “ I wondered if there was another concept to explore. For years I found nothing. But that has just changed. I don’t have a story, but I have a concept that seems as interesting to me as the first two games. It is independent, but there is a connection between the three. The Last of Us Part III confirmed, but you will have to be patient
Neil Druckmann is quite clear on Naughty Dog’s motivation: the idea will never be to do one episode too many. If developers want to move on because they feel they have nothing left to say, then they will. In this sense, The Last of Us Part II, reinvigorated on PlayStation 5, could have been the conclusion. “ If we stopped there, it would be an excellent ending. The story is over. And, at Naughty Dog, nothing is obligatory », confides Neil Druckmann.
It says nothing about the “concept” behind The Last of Us Part III. It simply recalls that the first game highlighted “ the unconditional love of a parent for their child “, when the second focused on “ the quest for justice at all costs “. What could Neil Druckmann’s new idea be? No one can say. In view of the torrent of violence unleashed The Last of Us Part IIwe see a possibly calmer tone.
Another point to note, if The Last of Us Part III is currently only a concept, which means that we are not close to seeing it happen.
