For the 50th birthday of the Bobby Car, we have selected our favorite toys

The Bobby Car was presented for the first time in 1972 at the International Toy Fair in Nuremberg. The children’s slide car was invented by the toy manufacturer Ernst Bettag. His company was called BIG, and so the new toy also got an English name: the Bobby Car – which roughly translates to “rocking car”. The Bobby Car now competed with the classic tricycle and should also have an international career thanks to the English name.

It’s not only fun to jet across the paths or down small hills with the Bobby Car, it also has a positive effect on children’s development: In 1990, scientists found out that the children’s push car helps children to keep their posture and growth and has a positive effect on the joints. For this purpose, numerous kindergartens were equipped with the Bobby Cars for study purposes. The red car is used therapeutically when there is a dislocation of the hip joint, according to the “Tagesschau”.

The toy manufacturer BIG still produces 2000 Bobby Cars a day at a new location. In the meantime, however, there is not only the classic red, but also more than 100 special models, such as the police car. Some of the models were even co-developed by star designers.

Whether it’s the Bobby Car, your favorite teddy bear or a great monster game: we asked around in the editorial office what the editors liked to play with the most in their childhood. What was actually your favorite toy?
