A few days ago, a 9-year-old boy named Haidar fell into a well in a village in southeastern Afghanistan. Rescuers are trying to pull him out.

The accident occurred on Tuesday February 15 in a small village in the province of Zabullocated southeast of theAfghanistan. One 9 year old boynamed Haidarfell, without anyone yet knowing how, into a 25 meter deep dry well. Since then, the young boy has been stuck at the bottom of the cavity by “a rock”, without being able to go up.

Rescue were dispatched to the scene. An operation is underway to try to extract it, reports AFP. Deputy Prime Minister’s Secretary Abdul Ghani Baradar, a top leader in the Taliban government, spoke out in a tweet about the situation. “A team is there with an ambulance, oxygen and other necessary things (…) health [de l’enfant ndlr] is good and sometimes requires food and water”. He also states that the people mobilized try to “cleave the rock” to reach Haidar.

Significant resources are mobilized

This Thursday, February 17, many messages and videos have been published on social networks. On one of the videos we can hear the father of the child communicating with him to reassure him. “Haida, talk with me, we are trying to get you out. Are you okay my son? Talk with me and don’t cry, we are working to get you out”, he said. To which the boy replied in a small voice: “Okay, I’ll keep talking”.

According to the information disclosed, backhoes are currently busy digging trenches to get closer to the well. In a tweet, one of the spokespersons for the ruling Taliban said that relief “are working to ensure that the child is not injured by the collapse of the well” before adding “the Ministry of Defense is ready to deliver equipment by helicopter if necessary”.

This story is reminiscent little Ryan’s, who died after being stuck for several days in a well in Morocco. Let’s hope it’s not the same for Haidar!
