Nearly a decade before directing the “Lord of the Rings” saga, New Zealand director Peter Jackson had signed a completely crazy horror film. Focus on the incredible “Braindead”.

There is the Peter Jackson known to the general public, the one who gave birth to the cult Lord of the Rings trilogy. And then there is the other Peter Jackson, the one who, years before rushing into Middle-earth, made completely crazy films with a big economy of means. The craziest of them? Without question the incredible horror comedy Braindead.
A true UFO, BrainDead, released in France in 1993, tells the story of Lionel, a shy young man flanked by an intrusive mother. One day, he meets the beautiful Paquita, with whom he falls in love, which is not to the taste of his dear mother, who is determined to ruin this relationship.
While the mother is spying on one of their trysts at the zoo, she is bitten by a Sumatran rat monkey. Succumbing to her wounds, she then turns into a cannibalistic zombie and gradually contaminates the city. Only Lionel can stop the invasion…
From there, the viewer is swept away in a delirium that has almost no limits. With a modest budget of 3 million dollars (modest but comfortable compared to his first two films), Peter Jackson lets go completely to offer a horrific comedy that is unlike any other.
Braindead is very gory, it’s very funny, it’s full of ideas, it’s in markedly bad taste, it’s outrageous, burlesque, cartoony… In short, a crazy film that overflows everywhere , made with bits of string and not necessarily well played (this is also what makes its charm), but from which an incredible vitality emerges.
Immediately cult on its release (and in video clubs, souvenirs…), this Braindead will not leave you unscathed, with some frankly amazing scenes. The baby in the film, for example… No, we prefer to leave you the surprise!

Winner in 1993 of the Grand Prize at the International Fantastic Film Festival of Avoriaz, a reference of the time, Braindead is therefore, for fans of crazy horror comedies, to discover absolutely. A must in the matter which should not disappoint them.
When BrainDead hit theaters, Los Angeles Times reporter Peter Rainer said he saw “the most hilarious disgusting movie ever made. A movie that would make Re-Animator for a UNESCO documentary on Mother Teresa.” Quite a program, right?
