On Sunday January 23, 2022, Zone Interdite looked at radical Islam in the city of Roubaix. Faced with the controversy generated by the latter, Ophélie Meunier, presenter of the show, was placed under protection.
For almost thirty years, Restricted zone evokes the phenomena of French society. In her latest issue, Ophélie Meunier and her team took an interest in radical Islam. Questioned by the commission of inquiry into the concentration of the media on the right of inspection that he agreed on the content of the information programs of the M6 group, Nicolas de Tavernos, the chairman of the management board of the group indicated: “To do my job, I have to judge a certain number of criteria. During this speech, Nicolas de Tavernos revealed that Ophélie Meunier was threatened and had been placed under protection. “I asked if we had the guarantees, if it was an ‘extremist’ program, I asked if the presenter who is threatened, was protected, I asked if the witnesses who spoke were well blurred etc… I did the job that I feel I should do on a show whose decision is ultimately mine. I claim to have authorized this broadcast. But because I was asked to. We could have taken the opposite decision. I consider it my duty of responsibility: if you call it interference, I call it the exercise of my profession.“, he assured.
Ophélie Meunier is not the only one to have received threats
If the presenter is threatened today, the jurist Amine Elbahi, who appears in several sequences of Restricted zonealso received death threats. On BFMTV, he confided: “My phone number has circulated on social networks, several murder calls have been broadcast. I am threatened with beheading, with the throat cut, with attacking me because I held a speech of truth with an uncovered face and in particular on the inaction of the mayor of my commune.“
