Ford invests in a cathode manufacturing plant – 08/18/2023 at 12:00

(AOF) – SK On, EcoProBM and Ford announce an investment of 1.2 billion Canadian dollars for the construction of a cathode manufacturing plant that will supply the materials necessary for the batteries of Ford’s future electric vehicles. When production begins in the first half of 2026, the site will have the capacity to produce up to 45,000 tons of cathode active materials per year.

The new facility – Ford’s first investment in Quebec – is part of the automaker’s plan to localize processing of key battery raw materials in regions where it produces electric cars.

EcoPro CAM Canada LP will manufacture high-grade active cathode materials and specifically nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) for rechargeable batteries that target higher levels of performance and longer range of electric vehicles compared to products existing ones, thanks in part to EcoPro’s Hull Gradient Technology (CSG).
