- A major forest fire broke out on Saturday evening near Hohtenn in the canton of Valais on the southern ramp of the Lötschberg.
- Rail traffic between Goppenstein and Ausserberg was discontinued. A large contingent of firefighters and three helicopters fought the major fire.
- The fire has since been contained and two people have been evacuated. According to the police, there were no injuries.
According to a spokesman for the Valais cantonal police, the fire broke out around 7 p.m. Shortly after midnight, the police also announced that the fire had spread over an area of around 200 to 300 meters. As a precaution, two people were evacuated from a building near Hohtenn train station.
Around 90 firefighters were on duty. At times they were supported by three Air-Zermatt and Air-Glaciers helicopters, as well as by the BLS and SBB fire-fighting and rescue trains. The fire was contained, but the extinguishing work continued.
