forget Battlefield, this new FPS destroys everything

Could it happen that Battlefield is completely overshadowed by the new FPS The Finals? What is certain is that the latter already enjoys considerable popularity. Here’s what we know about it.

The open beta phase of The Finals game, developed by Embark Studios, was a resounding success with no less than 7.5 million players taking part in the experience. The comparison with Battlefield is not trivial since the studio is made up of veterans of the saga.

The Finals crushes everything

This full-scale trial began on October 26, 2023 and concluded recently, spanning different platforms such as PS5, PC and Xbox Series X/S. One of the highlights of this beta was the integration of Cross-Play, allowing players from different consoles to meet in the virtual arena.

The Finals game does not yet have an official release date, but it has already generated a lot of interest thanks to its original concept: a televised virtual fighting game. According to information revealed by Embark Studios, the game draws inspiration from popular works such as The Hunger Games and Gladiator.

For new PS5 owners, the connection to The Finals is even more meaningful as Sony has released a comprehensive guide for the PlayStation 5 in 2023, which explains everything users need to know about the console. In it, The Finals is shown as an example of an innovative game.

An innovative FPS

For the record, the goal of The Finals is to collect a chest containing coins and place it in an extraction point. The team that secures the chest the longest wins the round. The game offers three character classes:

  • Feather : a fast and agile class specializing in attack and mobility.
  • AVERAGE : a balanced class with offensive and defensive capabilities.
  • Heavy : a powerful and resilient class specialized in support and destruction.

As you would expect, each class has a unique arsenal of weapons and gadgets. The Finals also features a comprehensive destruction system, allowing players to alter the playing field to their advantage. This is also the big strong point of the gameplay.

Players can destroy walls, floors, ceilings and objects to create secret passages, vantage points or obstacles for their opponents. The destruction system is actually based on a damage system. Players can deal damage to structures by shooting them with weapons or using gadgets. Guns deal one-time damage, while gadgets deal continuous damage.
