As part of an interview with our colleagues at Game Informer, the director of Dragon’s Dogma 2 Hideaki Itsuno had some pretty bad news. A functionality that we usually expect on consoles will not be there. We explain all this to you.

A Dragon’s Dogma 2 without limits, but a little all the same

Dragon’s Dogma 2, expected on March 22 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, is undoubtedly one of the most closely watched releases of the moment. The first opus, released in 2012 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, had in any case enjoyed a certain level of success. However, no one thought that Capcom would one day release a sequel. The license has thus come a long way, to position itself in 2024 as a very potential candidate for the title of game of the year.

However, things could be measured on the console versions. The game director has indeed indicated that there are no plans to integrate different graphic modes. The traditional Performance and Quality modes, as for example on FF7 Rebirth, will therefore be absent from Dragon’s Dogma 2. Thus, players will not be able to choose between a sublime game but limited to 30 fps in 4K, or fluid but with a reduced resolution.

A bad for a good ?

Hideaki Itsuno provided some details regarding this decision. “ The game has an unlimited framerate. We are aiming for a frame rate around and/or above 30. This also applies to consoles. Some features can be enabled or disabled, but there are only a few sets of options that you can change at once “.

It remains to be seen under what conditions the game will aim for 30 fps and beyond. If the native resolution is blocked in 4K on consoles, fans of fluidity risk suffering. On PC, the freedom to modify various graphics settings should, as usual, be more present. Depending on your configuration, it should be fairly easy to aim for 60 fps or more. This should in principle not be the case on consoles. However, we will have to see the game in action to better understand the declarations of its director. See you for that in a few short weeks!
