The appointment of Gerald Darmanin, targeted by a rape complaint, to the Interior Ministry has caused a lot of reaction. It is the turn of right-wing women who worked with him, such as Rachida Dati and Valérie Pécresse, to denounce this choice of the government.

During the ministerial reshuffle, the appointment of Gérald Darmanin as Minister of the Interior made waves. He is indeed under the influence of a complaint and an investigation for rape, and his arrival place Beauvau makes jump the defenders of women's rights. After many voices from the left have risen to denounce this, it is the turn of the right and former colleagues of the minister to speak.

On July 15, Rachida Dati, former Minister of Justice and former candidate for mayor of Paris, signed a tribune in The world. The elected believes that by appointing Gérald Darmanin Minister of the Interior, Emmanuel Macron "sends the worst symbols considering that a suspicion of rape, harassment and breach of trust would be 'no obstacle' to running the country". While the government hides behind the presumption of innocence, she recalls that"at the start of the five-year term, ministers were dismissed in a few weeks for court cases without being sentenced". This was the case in particular of François Bayrou and the MoDem MP Marielle de Sarnez, indicted in a case of alleged fictitious jobs as parliamentary assistants, or François de Rugy, suspected of using public funds. Why, then, is this not the case with a rape complaint?

"What message to victims when we know that the role of the police in the fight against gender-based and sexual violence, particularly in receiving complaints and conducting investigations?" asks Rachida Dati. It says that it agrees with the "About Caroline de Haas when she says that the only crime we accept this for is rape".

The former Minister of Justice received the support of Valérie Pécresse. The LR president of the Ile-de-France region reacted on Twitter by writing: "Like Rachida Dati, I refuse the trivialization of complaints of rape and that we undermine the speech of women. Of course Gérald Darmanin is fully entitled to the presumption of innocence, but to appoint him Minister of the Interior, now, it is a mark of contempt for all victims ". Voices that have all their importance, because coming from the right, where equality between women and men is not always a priority, and because the two elected officials are former colleagues of the Minister of the Interior.
