WARSAW (Reuters) – Former Solidarity leader and Polish President Lech Walesa said on Friday he was suffering from COVID-19 after being infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

“I can’t believe it (…), I’m infected,” the 78-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate said in a Facebook post.

Lech Walesa, who said he received three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, said he suffered from headaches and was unable to warm his body.

“I feel like the flesh is being ripped from my bones (…). I can’t feel my own body,” he added.

According to his spokesperson, Lech Walesa is at his home. He was tested after feeling unwell.

The former Polish president (1990-1995), the first leader of post-communist Poland, who has become a severe critic of the policies of the ultra-conservative party currently in power in Warsaw, has had health problems in recent years and has undergone surgery for heart in 2021.
