  • The Formula 1 race in Saudi Arabia will take place on Saturday and not on Sunday as usual.
  • The previous Grand Prix in Bahrain also took place on Saturday.
  • The reason for this is the beginning of the fasting month of Ramadan.

Formula 1 is starting the 2024 season. But fans have to adapt. The first two races took place again in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, but this time the course of the race weekend has changed massively.

As a rule, Formula 1 stipulates that the race of a Grandpix takes place on Sundays; the days before are used for free practice and qualifying. However, the races on the weekends in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will not be held on a Sunday as usual, but on a Saturday.

Why are the races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia on a Saturday?

The reason for this is the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which begins on March 10th. That would be the Sunday on which the race would have taken place in Saudi Arabia. Out of consideration, it was decided to move the race in Saudi Arabia to Saturday and, for reasons of organizational simplicity, the first race in Bahrain also to a Saturday.

In 2023, Ramadan only began on March 22nd, after the two races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Therefore, they were able to be carried out as usual last year.
