Fortnite succeeds in raising the colossal amount of $144 million for Ukraine

In two weeks, the Fortnite video game has raised tens of millions of euros for the benefit of victims of the war in Ukraine.

Huge sums were expected to be raised for the benefit of Ukraine by the studio behind Fortnite. We can say that this qualifier was not usurped: in a waypoint shared this April 4, 2022, Epic Games announces that its two weeks of fundraising have raised no less than 144 million dollars (about 131 million euros).

Our sincere thanks to everyone who has joined us in supporting humanitarian relief efforts for those affected by the war in Ukraine. Together with the Fortnite and Xbox community, we raised $144 million for organizations including UNICEF, the World Food Program and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

$170 million raised by the video game industry

Already after three days, Fortnite had already hit hard by collecting more than 50 million dollars. The sums obtained are in fact indirect donations from the players of Fortnitesince Epic Games had announced that all micro-purchases on its game during the two charity weeks would go entirely to Ukrainian aid.

If we add the 6.37 million dollars collected by Itch.io and the pack concocted by Humble Bundle which made it possible to generate more than 18.76 million euros (about 20.63 million dollars), we arrive to nearly 170 million dollars raised by the video game industry – studios had also made donations on their side, such as CD Projekt Red, up to 217,000 euros.
