Advertised with aplomb as “ the most technically advanced racing game ever made “, Forza Motorsport seems to cough on PC.

It’s been 6 years since the last car simulation opus exclusive to Microsoft was released. It therefore goes without saying that the Forza Motorsport new one is expected by fans this month of October.

Planned exclusively for Xbox Series

Wrong turn for Forza Motorsport on PC?

While the games Forza Motorsport were usually released every 2 years, we had to wait triple that time to see the new opus, scheduled for October 10, arrive on the circuit. Behind such long development lie several factors such as the coronavirus pandemic, but above all a visibly colossal work on the part of Turn 10 Studios on many aspects of the game.

At the top of the list: a brand new version of the ForzaTech engine, which allows the integration of so-called “ more realistic than ever », weather drastically affecting driving, but also the visual aspect of the title, which we expect to be truly sumptuous. However, whether intentionally or not, the optimization of the PC version would have been left on the sidelines, due to these superb technological and graphical advances.

Supported benchmark tests

At Clubic, it is the good Nerces who takes care of the test of Forza Motorsport. Despite a monstrous configuration based on RTX 4090, Ryzen 9 5900X and 64 GB of RAM, our experienced pilot is confronted, with the turbo running at full throttle on all graphics cursors, with a jagged frame rate per second. saw in 3440 x 1440 pixels.

The internal benchmark, which intends to push the game to its limits, thus displays in such arrangements an overall result of “only” 66 frames per second. From his own experience, the counter oscillates between 65 and 100 frames per second, depending on the weather situation, the circuit and the number of vehicles present.

If we are reporting these results to you, it is because we have heard similar sounds from other people who have been able to put their hands on the wheel of this new Forza Motorsport. Optimization on PC is a delicate science, as there are so many configurations and manufacturers of the same different model, and certain machines as muscular as that of Nerces seem to suffer much more from it.

Let’s hope that the now traditional Day One patch manages to improve the situation, even if we know through force of habit that such a thing unfortunately rarely happens. We also hope that Turn 10 Studios will have better calibrated the Xbox Series X|S version, on which we will be entitled to three performance modes, as follows:

  • Performance: 4K at 60 frames per second;
  • Ray tracing performance: 4K at 60 frames per second, ray tracing enabled;
  • Visuals: 4K at 30 frames per second, ray tracing enabled.

Forza Motorsport (2023)

  • Excellent sensations
  • Successful “simcade” approach
  • Particularly rich content

Six years of waiting, certainly, but six years well deserved. On PC, we can’t help but feel a touch of disappointment about the animation speed. Disappointment that we will have to adjust with the day one patch, but which remains quite relative, as the driving sensations constitute a real pleasure.

Associated with a not too caricatured artificial intelligence, countless cars and competitions, you name it, these racing sensations push the player to want to go always further, to only let go of their controller after several hours competitive, a little tired, hands perhaps a tad sweaty, but a smile on his face.

Eternally dissatisfied as we are, we will however regret the absence of local multiplayer (split screen) and the obligation to be connected for career mode. However, this is not enough to keep us away from the asphalt for long.
