Inaugurated by Samsung on its Galaxy Watch 5, the operating system for connected watches from Google is also in the spotlight on the Pixel Watch. It is now starting to spread to watches from other manufacturers, including Fossil, which has started its deployment on its Gen 6 and is equipping its latest “Wellness Edition” version with it.

Focused on well-being, the latter takes up the hardware base of the other Fossil Gen 6: Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100+ chip, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal memory, 1.3 “Amoled screen (416 x 416 px) , GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, wifi, NFC, as well as a host of sensors (accelerometer, altimeter, ambient light, compass, gyroscope, off-body IR, PPG heart rate sensor, SpO2).

The Fossil Gen 6 Wellness stands out in terms of design, with a curvaceous stainless steel case in a unique 44 mm format – the classic Gen 6 also comes in a 42 mm format – on which is fixed a silicone strap of 20mm wide. Three finishes are available: black steel with black strap, silver steel with blue strap and pink gold steel with pink strap.

Contrary to what its name suggests, the Wellness does not seem to offer additional functions focused on well-being compared to a classic Gen 6. Fossil highlights the health and activity functions of its watch: automatic detection of workouts, estimation of VO2 Max, management of heart rate zones during exercise, measurement of oxygen saturation in the blood, sleep monitoring …

Everything revolves of course around Wear OS 3, coupled with the Fossil Smartwatches home application, Google does not seem to have decided to continue the Google Fit adventure or to deploy the Fitbit app on other watches than its own. At least the manufacturers will be able to offer their own vision of the connected watch at the application level.

Common point of watches under Wear OS on the other hand, the autonomy will not be a priori better on this Gen 6 Wellness watch, since Fossil still only announces up to 24 hours of operation in classic use. A quick charge nevertheless allows you to replenish 80% of the full energy in just 30 minutes with the magnetic charger supplied with the watch.

Launched at €299, the Fossil Gen 6 Wellness will be available from October 25th.
