Foundation, concealer, palette… A dermatologist reveals the lifespan of makeup products: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

If you love makeup and are a bit of a collector, then you may have accumulated all kinds of eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks, or even more or less covering concealers. You use them as you wish, but did you know that whatever the makeup product, it has an expiration date and has a limited lifespan? Dermatologist @Dermguru says more on her Tik Tok account and reveals how often to change your makeup sponge or palettes after opening.

How long can you use your foundation or eye shadow?

Regarding lip makeup, and more specifically gloss, it can be used up to six months after opening. The blush also has a shelf life of 6 months. Concealer, for its part, can be applied within a year of opening, just like liquid foundation. The liner, which is placed on the eyes, can be used for three months. Finally, Beauty Blender type makeup sponges have a lifespan of less than three months according to the dermatologist.

According to the comments posted by Internet users under the video, many people have been using the same makeup products for a while: “my blush is several years old” ; “Is this optional? Because I’ve had my blush since I was at university”; “I have products that are over 15 years old”; “I’ve had an eyeshadow palette for two years” or “My mother’s current makeup expired in 2010.”

How to properly clean your Beauty Blender sponge?

If you use expired makeup, you risk coming into contact with bacteria and developing small infections such as irritation, redness or even contact eczema or allergies. It is therefore strongly recommended to respect the time limit for using these products to avoid any risk.

In one of our previous articles, Dr. Nina Roos also advised Current Woman to clean makeup sponges and brushes “every 15 days,”with lukewarm water and a foaming, grease-dissolving cleanser, such as dishwashing liquid or shampoo.
