Israel: Attackers from Lebanon prevented from crossing border

Concern is growing in Israel that a new front could form on the border with Lebanon. There have been repeated incidents there in the past few days. The Israeli army now claims to have killed four attackers while attempting to cross the border.

The Israeli army says it has prevented a terrorist cell from advancing into Israeli territory from Lebanon. “Four terrorists were killed,” the military said. They tried to plant an explosive device and cross the security system. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned the Lebanese Hezbollah militia and Iran against attacks on Israel on Monday evening.

Since the devastating terrorist attacks on Israel by the Islamist Palestinian organization Hamas on October 7th and the Israeli army’s counterattacks on the Gaza Strip, there have been regular incidents on the border between Israel and Lebanon in recent days, fueling fears of further escalation.

Lebanese security sources said more than 100 mortar shells were fired by Israel into Lebanese territory during the night. However, these ended up mainly in the outskirts of Lebanese towns. There were no reports of injuries.
