France 2 and France 3 arrive in 4K UHD without using your Internet connection

The transition from DTT to 4K is finally beginning for France Télévisions channels. Parisians can start receiving France 2 and France 3 in 4K UHD.

We can sometimes forget it, but it is not only through our TV box that we can receive television channels. TNT is indeed still there to receive channels using a simple antenna. The transition to 4K UHD has been a long time coming, but it is now becoming very concrete for the first Ile-de-France residents.

Indeed, France 2 and France 3 now broadcast their programs in 4K Ultra HD, that is to say in 3840 x 2160 pixels, via TNT in Île-de-France. Definition is not the only gain. It was a strong promise from France Télévisions.

Better picture and sound quality

With the transition to 4K UHD, France 2 and France 3 also offer HDR 10 management and Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC3) and Dolby AC-4 audio. The latter could however pose compatibility problems, few televisions support Dolby AC-4. The frame rate also increases to 50 frames per second. For the moment this deployment is limited to Paris and its outskirts, but we hope that it will soon concern the entire territory.

Like the reminder Phonandroid, for France Télévisions, the objective is to cover up to 70% of the French population by June 2024, that is to say for the opening of the Paris Olympic Games. The sporting event should obviously benefit from this gain in image quality, but also and above all from this fluidity.
