PARIS (Reuters) – The new Minister of Health, François Braun, pledged on Monday when he took office to begin without delay the renovation of the French health system, which he considers “out of breath”.

The president of Samu-Urgences de France, an emergency doctor by training, had delivered last week the conclusions of a “flash mission” requested by Emmanuel Macron to provide solutions to the crisis in hospitals, which fear saturation during the summer. .

He succeeds Brigitte Bourguignon, forced to leave the Ministry of Health following her defeat in the legislative elections.

“Our health system is capable of doing extraordinary things, like during the pandemic, but it lacks flexibility, visibility. It is no longer understood by our fellow citizens but also by our caregivers. We must be aware of this”, a declared François Braun during the handover.

“General, pediatric, psychiatric, gyneco-obstetrical emergencies are sick, the public hospital is not well and our whole health system is out of breath,” he said.

The new minister felt that there was “an emergency for the hospital and its carers”.

“It is together, caregivers, patients, elected officials, administrations, that we must carry out this renovation in a rapid, realistic and pragmatic way”, he said.
