France Heaulme guilty of a new murder? Serial killer indicted for “cold case”

Twenty years after the events, a case is about to be reopened. This concerns the murder of Jean-Joseph Clément, a farmer discovered with a shattered skull in 2002. At the time, Francis Heaulme had already been suspected of this murder, but there was a lack of evidence to incriminate him. Today, the lawyer for the victim’s daughter brought new information into the case.

Will the criminal backpacker be sentenced again? At present, Francis Heaulme, 64 years old, is serving a life sentence in Ensisheim prison, in Haut-Rhin, for crimes committed between 1984 and 1992. Among the list of his known victims is Lyonelle Gineste, an apprentice pastry chef aged 17 years, killed in the Puvenelle forest in Montauville, Aline Pérès, a caregiver, on May 14, 1989, killed on the Moulin-Blanc beach in Relecq-Kerhuon, near Brest, or even Joris Viville, murdered in Grimaud during the Easter holidays of 1989. In all, at least eleven people were victims of the man who would later describe his crimes as “glitches”.

What do these victims have in common, men, women, young and old alike? Having one day crossed paths with the serial killer. to be found in the wrong place at the wrong time, in short. If Francis Heaulme is already at risk of ending his days in prison, he could well be incriminated again. As François Schneider, Reims prosecutor, confirmed to AFP on October 20, the investigation into the murder of Jean-Joseph Clément in 1989 was reopened.

Death of Jean-Joseph Clément: Francis Heaulme already suspected in 2002

As a reminder, in August 1989, Jean-Joseph Clément, agricultural machinery repairer, was found with his skull smashed in Bédarrides, near Avignon, in Vaucluse. At the time, Francis Heaulme’s path had already quickly emerged. But he was not yet considered the serial killer we know today. Faced with the evidence that incriminated him, he initially confessed, before retracting, as he had often done in other cases. Due to a lack of sufficient evidence, he ultimately benefited from a dismissal of the case. However, more than twenty years later, new elements have been added to the file. Didier Seban, the lawyer for Jean-Joseph Clément’s daughter, told AFP that “the way in which [a été] killed Mr. Clément, the confessions and the criminal journey of Francis Heaulme, everything leads us to believe that he is the author of this murder.” An investigating judge was contacted. The file will be sent to the Nanterre criminal center responsible for unsolved crimes, the famous “cold cases”.
