What you need to know about this indicator: GDP measures the wealth created by all public and private actors in a country over a given period. It is a major economic indicator at the national level, just like employment/unemployment or inflation. The evolution of GDP makes it possible to calculate the rate of growth, or decline, of a country’s activity. We speak of a recession when it declines for at least two consecutive quarters. Measuring GDP per capita makes it possible to compare the level of wealth between countries.
