While the rumor of an upcoming reshuffle intensifies, several names are already circulating to replace Élisabeth Borne at Matignon. If François Bayrou, ally of Emmanuel Macron, has already indicated that he does not want the post of Prime Minister, he has some ideas for a potential replacement. Europe 1 spoke with the boss of the MoDem, a member of the majority.

Who to replace Elisabeth Borne? Emmanuel Macron has been meeting the executives of his majority for several days, like Édouard Philippe on Monday, while the Prime Minister said Wednesday evening in Le Figaro “not to give up”. And some are already imagining a replacement for him, like François Bayrou. Emmanuel Macron’s first ally, who has been discreet for months, comes out of the woods a few weeks before a possible reshuffle.

An application for 2027?

The former mayor of Pau, however, cuts short any speculation: he indicates that he is not interested in Matignon. This does not prevent him from wanting to weigh within the macronie. The boss of the MoDem judges Elisabeth Borne “too techno” to remain Prime Minister in the face of the current political crisis. “Matignon needs a political leader, not an executor,” he analyzes. “To name a figure from the right or from LR would be a mistake”, adds the former minister; otherwise, “I am free and independent”.

Finally, the one who calls himself the “French Joe Biden”, is already thinking of the presidential election of 2027. “There will not be two candidates in our camp, I am the only one to have already given up my place”, recalls he, before taking the opportunity to tackle his main opponent, Édouard Philippe, the favorite in the polls. “The presidential election is always the outsider who wins,” concludes François Bayrou.
