Franois Schmitt succeeds Jean-Yves Dags at the head of the insurer Groupama

François Schmitt, former president of Groupama Grand Est, was elected president of Groupama Assurance Mutuelles by the board of directors on Friday, succeeding Jean-Yves Dagès who had held this position since 2012, the group announced in a press release.

After ten years that have enabled the recovery and remutualization of the Group, under the chairmanship of Mr. Dags, Mr. Schmitt is taking over to meet the many challenges that Groupama is facing today, according to its CEO Thierry Martel.

Franois Schmitt, mixed crop farmer and breeder in Moselle, has been involved in the group since 1993 with the local mutual in Thionville, then in 2008 became chairman of the regional mutual Groupama Grand Est and director of Groupama.

My objective is to make attention to our members and customers an absolute priority of my mandate, while continuing to consolidate our technical and financial fundamentals, promised Mr. Schmitt, quoted in the press release from the insurer.

The insurer, which employs 31,000 people, generated in 2022 a net profit down nearly 8% compared to the previous year, 454 million euros, in an extremely unfavorable economic climate due in particular to inflation and the increase in claims. climatic.

Turnover, for its part, stood at 15.9 billion euros last year, up 4.3% compared to 2021.
