According to consistent media reports, Franz Beckenbauer was buried in a small circle in Munich on Friday.
Franz Beckenbauer (1945-2024), who died on January 7th, was buried in Munich this Friday. Several German media report this unanimously. The Emperor, as he was often called, According to Bayerischer Rundfunk, he was buried in his parents’ grave in the cemetery at Perlacher Forst. He was buried as part of a private funeral service in a small circle.
Big memorial service planned
As has already been announced in the past few days, FC Bayern Munich, the long-standing club of the German football legend, will be holding a large memorial ceremony in Munich’s Allianz Arena on January 19th. Admission cards required for participation are on the club’s homepage available free of charge.
“Friends and companions from national and international sports, culture and politics,” including Chancellor Olaf Scholz (65), are expected at the memorial service. The first shows the ceremony on TV from around 3:00 p.m., BR television reports live from 2:40 p.m. The event will also be shown in the ARD media library.
FC Bayern plays in special jerseys and mourning ribbon
FC Bayern will also dedicate its game against TSG Hoffenheim on January 12th to the memory of the deceased, as the club reports. There will be a minute’s silence in all German stadiums on this match day, and the two teams will also arrive in Munich wearing mourning ribbons to the Beckenbauer song “Good Friends”. The Bayern players will wear special jerseys – with the imprint “Thank you Franz”. The jerseys will then be signed and auctioned off next week, with the proceeds going to the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation.
