False canvassers go to residents’ homes under the pretext of checking the optical fiber. But it is a scam, sometimes difficult to sniff out.

Let’s head to Sévérac d’Aveyron, a small town of 4,000 inhabitants in the Occitanie region, where people tried to scam citizens this week. The scammers pretended to residents that they wanted to control fiber optic networks. They obviously did not have the right to do so, so the town hall launched the alert to enlighten as many people as possible about this fraudulent canvassing.

The town hall had not mandated anyone to intervene on the optical fiber

All means are good to try to trap the citizens of a small town where, they will say, people are reluctant to take certain risks. In Sévérac d’Aveyron, individuals went around the homes on Wednesday morning, claiming to be controlling the fiber networks.

In reality, they are scammers. Because in fact, the town hall, which notably launched the alert on social networks, explains that it has not mandated any technician or salesperson to carry out such an intervention.

On the town hall’s Facebook page, a resident confirmed having received a visit from individuals claiming that they had indeed been mandated by the management of the small town.

Any physical movement of a technician must be validated in advance by the operator and the customer

The town hall then wasted no time in inviting its residents to notify the gendarmerie if they had the slightest doubt, by dialing 17, which is undoubtedly safer. Also another option? Try to contact your operator if the presence is too insistent.

The director of relations with local authorities in Aveyron and Lozère d’Orange, Laurent Pauzies, completed the town hall’s alert by reminding ” that no fiber network control is organized in private homes ”, because it is useless.

The connection is made accommodation by accommodation, and after placing an order with a commercial operator », continued the specialist. You have now been warned: no operator will come directly to your home to carry out a fiber network check, without your agreement.
