Freddie Prinze Jr.: what happened to the hero of Remember Last Summer and Scooby-Doo?

He was very popular with the films “Remember…Last Summer”, “Scooby-Doo” and “She’s Too Good”. We tell you what happened to American actor Freddie Prinze Jr.!

He was one of the most popular young American actors of the 90s thanks to his roles in the first two films of the horror saga Remember… Last Summer and the romantic comedy It’s Too Good. The following decade, he was also bankable with a slew of “teen movies” and his incarnation of Fred Jones in the live adaptations of Scooby-Doo. But what happened to Freddie Prinze Jr.?

Because yes, it must be recognized: after Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, released in theaters in 2004, Freddie Prinze Jr. suddenly disappeared from circulation. Surprising for an actor who had recently made a cameo in the series Friends – a very good barometer for judging popularity.

After the second live adaptation of Scooby-Doo, Freddie Prinze Jr., known on the celebrity side for his relationship with Sarah Michelle Gellar, appeared in a few episodes of the series Boston Justice. Above all, he created a show for ABC that bears his name. This is perhaps where the machine seized up for the American: Freddie only lasted one season due to lack of sufficient audiences.

After the failure of his series, things got worse for Freddie Prinze Jr. who accumulated failures. Brooklyn Rules, New York City Serenade or even Jack and Jill vs. The World does not in fact meet its audience at all and the one who experienced an ordeal while filming Remember… last summer then distances himself from the cinema.

It is therefore towards television that Freddie Prinze Jr. is now turning, notably with a notable performance in the series 24, where he plays Agent Ortiz alongside Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland). Dubbing also occupies a significant part of his time: he lends his voice for video games, for the animated film Delgo but, above all, for the series Star Wars Rebel, where he plays the character of Kanan Jarrus on the microphone. A character he briefly returned to for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the ninth opus of the famous intergalactic saga.

But the real surprise in Freddie Prinze Jr.’s career is his involvement since 2008 in a world far removed from film sets: wrestling! The American notably served as producer and director for the official federation of the discipline, WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment), with the mission of ensuring that the matches took place as planned.

Remember Last Summer: The Tragic True Story Behind the Horror Movie

Since 2021, Freddie Prinze Jr. has been in charge of Wrestling With Freddie, a podcast specially dedicated to this wrestling that he loves. And last April, he joined the Premier Streaming Network team, an independent platform offering content related specifically to this discipline, but also more generally to sport and entertainment.

Freddie Prinze Jr. on screen, so is it over? Not so sure… The actor, now 47 years old, was in discussions at the start of the year to reprise his role in a sequel to Remember… last summer.
