“Free” games from February 2024 on PSN

To be able to play online with your PlayStation, you must subscribe to the PSN Plus Essential service. This offer also allows players to try out a few titles chosen by Sony, at no cost other than the price of the subscription to the service (€71.99 for one year). If the games offered are quite uneven from month to month, they are often original titles which offer an unusual experience, this month in particular.

Foamstars

Published by Square Enix, Foamstars necessarily reminds Splatoon, better known, from Nintendo. If we fight with foam (and not paint), the concept nevertheless remains very similar since it is an arena fight in player versus player mode bringing together eight competitors, four per team. Three game modes are offered, including a very classic last man standing in which the winner is the last surviving player. Foamstars is played online only; don’t expect to follow a thrilling story since no single player mode is available. It’s all about competition.

Rollerdrome

A true homage to the music and aesthetics of the 80s — Moebius did you say? —, Rollerdrome also comes to skate on the grounds of the legendary saga Tony Hawk Pro Skating while looking towards Max Payne and his gunfights stylish. All these influences (and a few others) will serve a quickly completed plot – less than ten hours – in which Kara Hassan, rider high-flying and pistolera of talent will use his tricks and all the weapons at his disposal to emerge victorious in a sort of televised death game.

Steelrising

Yielding to the great fashion of soulslike, Steelrising is intended to be a slightly too academic interpretation of From Software’s games. If the gaming system is very far from revolutionizing the genre, it is quite different with the atmosphere and the environment. The story takes place in Paris in the middle of the French Revolution. The king, fond of automatons, counts on his mechanical army to severely repress it. You play as an automaton, Aegis, bodyguard of Queen Marie-Antoinette who tasks you with finding the creator of the king’s army in order to put an end to this bloodbath. This backdrop will allow the player to explore an uchronic and dystopian Paris that the Spiders teams have particularly taken care of, and to meet historical figures of the time such as Robespierre, the Marquis de Lafayette, Jacques Necker or even the executioner Charles- Henri Sanson. Steelrising is therefore a curiosity, more interesting by its background than by its playful qualities.
