Free haircut – Where you pay at the barber with a child’s laugh

A hairdresser from Neufeld with enormous social skills locked his shop for four hours and dressed up nine children and young people from the Pöttsching Children’s Village for the confectioner’s ball in the Vienna Hofburg. An unforgettable experience for the kids!

In December 2023, the boss of Gent’s Life Barber Shop in Neufeld asked the Pöttsching Children’s Village whether he could support the inpatient child and youth welfare facility. Homeless people are also served for free. Asked, done: five girls and four boys came to the on Thursday Shop to get dressed up for the evening confectionery ball in the Vienna Hofburg. The reward for four hours of lost earnings: “A child’s laughter like that is priceless,” says Jan-Luca Zechmeister-Seiler, who is known for his social commitment. He also regularly serves homeless people who cannot afford a hairdresser – free of charge, of course. 105 euros from the donation box. The retired hairdresser Silvia Straka had read about this in the “Krone” and offered to help the children’s village children. With combined efforts, hair was washed, curls were wrapped, ends were trimmed, and the neck was shaved. “When Julia saw herself in the mirror, she had tears in her eyes,” says Zechmeister-Seiler, who had set up a donation box for the children’s village next to the cash register. Within a month, 105 euros were collected, which he gave to Peter Artner. “We accompany our children and young people on the best possible path into adult life,” says the deputy director. For 15 years, the kids from Pöttsching, who cannot grow up with their families, have been an integral part of the confectioner’s ball. You can march in there together with the debutants. They have never been as dashing as they are this year! Information and support: kinderdorf-poettsching.at
