The game is all about reaching the king by choosing the right ladder on each floor and saving him from his executioner. However, this only succeeds if mini puzzles are always solved on the way there. Each level consists of numerous obstacles such as doors, monsters, moving guards, tunnels and much more. There are also multicolored switches. These serve to reverse the state of the obstacles, eventually clearing the way.

At the end of the game level, crowns are placed, which you have to collect in order to get all the cards of the kings of France. Hence the French name of the game – how appropriate.
