The Iliad group has just communicated its annual results for 2023. A record year on many levels for the parent company of Free, which can boast of having attracted more than 300,000 new subscribers in the last quarter of the year alone.
This Thursday, the Iliad group revealed its financial results for the year 2023. The French giant specializing in telecommunications announces “ a year of exceptional growth », both in terms of new subscribers and turnover. Despite a declining net profit, the parent company of Free “ consolidates its good financial situation », notably thanks to a fourth quarter marked by numerous records.
Fixed and mobile: Free, more than ever at the top of its form
In 2023, the group chaired by Xavier Niel generated a turnover of 9.24 billion euros (+10.4% over one year) and attracted nearly 787,000 new subscribers with its mobile plans.
Such performances therefore allowed the Frenchman to cross the symbolic bar of 15 million Free Mobile subscribers. Last year, remember that Free was the only operator not to increase its prices to fight inflation, even committing to blocking the price of its mobile plans until 2027.
Regarding landlines, Free announces having attracted 234,000 new High and Very High Speed subscribers in 2023, in addition to 858,000 new fiber subscribers. In summary, the FAI ends the year as “ leader in recruiting new subscribers, both on Mobile and Fixed Lines “.

If, overall, the year 2023 was particularly fruitful for Free, the figures show that the fourth quarter largely contributed to this strong growth. Of the 787,000 new Free Mobile subscribers, 213,000 were recruited during the last quarter of 2023. On landlines, no less than 100,000 new subscribers were registered, bringing the total of new subscribers (fixed and mobile) to 313,000.
According to the group, this represents “ Free’s best quarterly performance in 10 years “.
In France, the Iliad group has recorded the strongest growth in its turnover in 9 years and obviously does not intend to stop there. For the year 2024, the giant aims to achieve an overall turnover of 10 billion euros (compared to 9.2 billion in 2023) and already plans to become the fifth mobile operator in Europe.
