Free loading at Lidl: App for e-cars is being discontinued – this is how it will continue

Lidl charging station.

At Lidl you can charge your e-car for free while shopping. The discounter has introduced the eCharge app for this purpose. You have to unlock yourself. That will change soon. As early as mid-March, you have to use another app to continue using the charging stations free of charge.

Lidl integrates eCharge app into Lidl Plus app

Anyone who owns an e-car and has a Lidl nearby that has a free charging station will be happy to drive there. You can charge your e-car there for free. To ensure that the service is not exploited, Lidl has introduced an eCharge app. You have to start the charging process with this and you can only receive electricity for a certain period of time. This ends on March 9, 2022. Lidl informed me by email today that the activation of the charging stations work via the Lidl Plus app from March 15, 2022 will.

Anyone who wants to charge their electric car free of charge at Lidl from March 9, 2022 can no longer do so with the well-known eCharge app. If you don’t have the Lidl Plus app yet, you have to download it for Android or iPhone from the respective app stores.

The Lidl Plus app then takes over the functions of the eCharge app. After registering, you can display the charging stations. In order to start a loading process, you have to Scan the QR code at the charging station. The otherwise applicable conditions remain. The charging process may take a maximum of one hour and the charging power is limited to 50 kW. The old app and all data will be completely deleted by Lidl.

What the Lidl Plus app can do so far:

Lidl needs a transition period of a few days

Between March 9th and 15th there will be a transitional period during which the discounter’s charging stations cannot be activated with the app. If you still want to charge your e-car, you have to Follow the on-site instructions at the charging station. Charging will still be possible, but you have to start the charging process manually directly at the charging station. If everything goes smoothly, you can use the Lidl Plus app for this from March 15th.
