Free Mobile expands list of phones eligible for higher quality calls

Free Mobile is enabling VoLTE technology (4G calls) to more smartphones.

If you have a Free Mobile package, perhaps you are unknowingly eligible for the new VoLTE (Voice over LTE) service? To find out, you need a compatible smartphone and request its activation. Not sure if your terminal is? The operator has a page for you to see if your model is supported.

Free Mobile is enabling VoLTE on more phones

It just got an update, announced on February 18 through one of the company’s official accounts. The list provides information on the phones that are already compatible and indicates those that will be compatible at various times (first semester and second quarter). The models concerned are sometimes relatively old, like the iPhone 6S Plus or the Pixel 4a.

VoLTE has the particularity of passing calls made or received on the 4G network. These 4G calls have the advantage of greatly improving the sound quality of communications. Another interest: it is possible to browse the Internet at the same time as a telephone conversation. Finally, the time to reach someone is practically instantaneous, with no waiting time before ringing.

To activate the VoLTE service, simply send “volte” by SMS to 1337. This is not necessary either on the Free Pro plans or on smartphones which are marketed from January 1, 2022. These models benefit directly from VoLTE technology. This had been promised in September by Free, for availability from December.
