The Free operator has deployed a new update for three of its Freeboxes, namely the Ultra, Pop and Delta models. Two issues have been fixed.

If you are a fixed subscriber to Free and you have a Freebox Ultra, Pop or Delta, you may have noticed your server updated in recent hours. Xavier Niel’s operator started the deployment of an update at the end of the week which, if it does not trigger itself, can also be pushed manually. In the meantime, it essentially fixes two separate problems.

A Freebox update deployed since Thursday

The Freebox Server of each of the Ultra, Pop and Delta models can switch from version 4.8.8 to version 4.8.9 since Thursday April 18, 2024 at 11 a.m., in theory. The latter corrects two things.

First, the update fixes the “ lack of IPv6 connectivity in bridge mode on Freebox Delta “. What does that mean ? Free customers with a Delta will also be able to benefit from IPv6 in bridge mode, for a better internet connection.

Freebox bridge mode allows you to deactivate the server router. Generally, this allows you to use your own router, a Netgear or others. However, be careful, only activate bridge mode if you have certain skills. “ Without a router, only one device at a time will be able to obtain an IP address and therefore have access to the Internet », recalls the Free teams.

How to install the latest version of your Freebox?

As for the other problem corrected, it consists of the display of the statistics of the SFP LAN port of the Freeboxes. The display of LAN SFP port statistics is improved, ensuring a better experience in both visibility and monitoring of your network.

If you want to update your Freebox server, you simply have to restart the box. For Freebox Ultra users, a small button located on the right side of the box allows the procedure to be started automatically. It takes around sixty seconds for the Freebox to restart.

To check that your Freebox is using the very latest version deployed by the developers, simply go to the box menu, then in “advanced information”, and finally press “version”. If 4.8.9 is displayed, then you are all good.
