The Free operator provides its future or current subscribers with a forecast coverage map, which can be very practical.
If you are a Free Mobile subscriber and you feel that the operator’s network is not efficient enough, it may be that the antenna closest to you is poorly oriented or too far to so that you can appreciate its full potential. Free thus offers a three-month forecast 4G coverage map, so that you can make the best decision. And imagine that there is a way to identify very precisely the place of installation of the antennas.
A map that provides visibility on the Free antennas installed near you
ARCEP already offers a 3G, 4G and 5G mobile coverage map, but this is only updated periodically (usually twice a year) and therefore does not really offer visibility on recent developments… or next of the network of your current or future operator.
The forecast map proposed by Free therefore makes sense, even if it is only updated periodically. It tells us how many antennas will be put into operation in the next three months in 4G and 4G+, which can help in decision-making.
The last update of the Free map dates back to June 24, 2022, so we can have an idea of the new antennas installed in this second part of 2022. Information that ARCEP will only provide us with at the beginning of the year 2023. It’s always taken.
Our tip to help you locate very precisely the location of the last/next antennas
Free brings up the next (or recent, depending on when you check it) installed antennas on a metropolitan map, which lets you enter your address and find out if any of them are taking root near your home. At the bottom of the page, the operator even offers you to download the list of network sites that are in theory soon to be installed.
This list is handy in that it tells you, via a CSV file, the exact coordinates of newly commissioned antennas. Here’s how to find out more:
- On the CSV file, refer to column A: it indicates on each line, for the first five digits, the postal code of the antenna;
- If a postal code speaks to you, identify columns B (latitude) and C (longitude);
- Open a web page on the coordinates-gps.fr site. ;
- Copy and paste the data from column B (latitude) that interests you on the “latitude” line of the “DD (decimal degrees)” section;
- Copy and paste the data from the corresponding column C (the longitude) on the “longitude” line just below;
- Then click on “get address”.
Thus, by entering the coordinates (in decimal degrees format) in the search field, you will be able to obtain the exact installation address of the antenna.
