“Freedom convoy”: 81 people placed in police custody in Paris, overflows on the Champs Elysées

Arrived in convoys from all over France, thousands of opponents of the vaccine pass managed to enter the capital this Saturday, February 12 to demonstrate, despite the ban from the police headquarters. In total, more than 600 vehicles were intercepted and 81 people were placed in police custody in Paris.

Around midnight, the police were still trying to repel some diehards near the Champs-Elysées, while residents offered help to them.

Earlier in the afternoon, more than a hundred vehicles did manage to enter the capital, to denounce the sanitary measures.

Nearly 7,200 police and gendarmes will be deployed “over the next three days to enforce the bans on vehicle convoys”, according to the Prefecture of Police. Gendarmerie armored vehicles have also been deployed in the capital, a first since the demonstrations of “yellow vests” at the end of 2018.

The authorized demonstrations against health measures brought together 32,100 people in France this Saturday, including nearly 7,600 in Paris, according to data communicated by the Ministry of the Interior.
