In a press release, the Draguignan prosecutor’s office said that a 38-year-old man came forward “to denounce a voluntary homicide he had committed the day before in the town of Fréjus”. This man “carried with him a severed head and the male genitals of the victim whose identity he gave,” said the prosecution.
The Toulon judicial police, in charge of the investigation, told AFP that the defendant presented himself to the Fréjus gendarmerie on Friday morning. “He exhibited a human head, so he was immediately taken to the police station and taken into custody.” The man was known to the police until now for “small business”.
The man placed in police custody must be the subject of a psychiatric expertise, further indicated the Draguignan prosecutor’s office, who specified that at this stage of the investigation, the motive for the crime “is still uncertain”. Friday evening, investigators made “technical findings on the alleged crime scene” at the home of the respondent.
