Amélie Oudéa-Castéra is stepping down as Education Minister after four weeks.
She stumbles over a statement of her own.
The new education minister in France, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, is no longer in office after just four weeks. The new head of government, Gabriel Attal, has ordered a change within the government.
The background to the change is a statement by Oudéa-Castéra. She explained that she was sending her children to private school because there were too many classes missed in public school. The minister then found herself exposed to a wave of criticism.
Now Oudéa-Castéra remains sports minister. She had previously held this position before she was also appointed Minister of Education in January. As Sports Minister, she is currently busy preparing for the Summer Olympics. These will take place in Paris this year.
The new education minister in France will now be Nicole Belleoubet. She was Minister of Justice in France from 2017 to 2020. Belleoubet is a former principal and comes from the Socialist Party.
