French woman arrested after filming naked video on a sacred bridge

This Saturday, August 29, authorities in the city of Rishikesh, India, announced that they had arrested a French woman. The 27-year-old was arrested Thursday for posting a video of her naked on the Internet on Laksham Jhula, a sacred bridge in the city, AFP reports. Present in the city since March 2020, she had also taken naked photos in a hotel room, which were also published on social networks. The photos and videos alerted local police, who proceeded to arrest him.

"She told us that she sells pearl necklaces online, and that the video is intended to promote her business.", explains the local police to AFP. The young woman, placed in detention then released on bail risks up to three years in prison if the justice finds her guilty of having violated the laws regulating the use of the Internet in India. His cell phone was confiscated.

If this Frenchwoman was taken into custody, it is because the fact of filming herself naked in a sacred place and of having published the video is considered offensive in the eyes of the Indian authorities. “Maybe in France these things are not considered questionable. But Rishikesh is a sacred place and the [bridge] Lakshman Jhula is the place where [the Hindu gods] Ram, his brother Lakshman and his wife Sita crossed. the Ganges ", explains the local police chief. This bridge is located near the ashram where the Beatles made a spiritual retreat in 1968, reports the news agency. The city of Rishikesh, located at the foot of the Himalayas, is very popular with hikers and yogis, yoga enthusiasts.
