Actor Matthew Perry recently said he pushed the “Friends” co-creator for his character Chandler to have the show’s last line of dialogue.
Friends fans may remember the show’s very last line of dialogue, which saw Chandler spit out a little joke that was as funny as it was tinged with melancholy. Matthew Perry, the interpreter of the character, recently declared that he had insisted with Marta Kauffman, the co-creator of the show, to be the last of the troop to speak.
“Before the last episode, I went to see Marta Kauffman one-on-one”says Perry in his recent memoir, titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. “I said to him, ‘Look, nobody cares about that except me. Can I have the last line of dialogue, please?”
“And that’s why, when we all leave the apartment and Rachel suggests one last coffee, I’m the one who pulls down the curtain on Friends”concludes the actor.
In the last scene of the very last episode of Friends, Monica empties her apartment and each of the characters leaves her key on the kitchen counter. Rachel then suggests having a last coffee and Chandler replies, with his famous sarcastic side: “Where ?”
Obviously, everyone knows the answer and knows that this last coffee will be taken at Central Perk, where the merry band meets regularly. Suffice to say that this last word spoken by Matthew Perry is loaded with emotions…
