Fritz Wepper has been in a hospice for a few days. His wife reports on beautiful and difficult times at his side.

On the cult actor’s last journey Fritz Wepper (82) has his family close by his side. In the hospice, the popular TV star is visited and lovingly cared for every day by his wife Susanne Kellermann (49) and their daughter Filippa (12). The fact that he could end any day is a certainty that his wife can hardly bear and that she tries to come to terms with as best she can.

Decision for hospice was “extremely bad”

Just a few days after being transferred to the Upper Bavarian hospice she reports in the “Bild” newspaper about Fritz Wepper’s current condition and her difficulties in dealing with the hopeless situation. She made the decision to finally move her husband to the hospice after eight weeks in the palliative care unit together with the treating doctors. This step was “extremely bad” for her, even if she tries to keep the positive aspects in mind. “The goal of hospice is to ensure that you can have as much life as possible, even in this state of illness,” says Kellermann. “I take my hat off to all the nursing staff for their commitment.”

The fact that her husband is now there and the doctors no longer dare to give a more precise prognosis does not mean “that he will die tomorrow.” Nevertheless, she looks at the situation realistically and hopes that in an emergency they will call her in time “so that I can be with Fritz when it comes to an end.”

“This constant saying goodbye is a nightmare”

In the past few months, she has had to say goodbye to him twice, apparently for good, due to his state of health. “This constant saying goodbye is a nightmare and makes me exhausted,” said the camerawoman and director. “You don’t become numb. Every new time is terrible.” She last received a call from the doctors on February 13th and immediately rushed to her husband. However, this surprisingly stabilized again overnight and even sang a birthday serenade to her mother over the phone the next day.

Weisswurst and beer at the hospital bed

Fritz Wepper is currently doing relatively well despite the adverse circumstances. Most of the time he is in bed, but he can also sit for a few hours and talk to her and other visitors. “But Fritz gets tired every now and then,” says Kellermann. “He doesn’t complain and we laugh together too.” The actor recently expressed a special wish, which she immediately fulfilled: “Fritz wanted white sausages and fresh pretzels, with a sip of beer. I got everything, the kitchen then prepared him a snack. He was happy about that very happy.”

Despite such beautiful moments, she is currently “just sad and depressed” and feels exhausted. “We spent almost all of the last three years in clinics,” said the brave partner of the “Derrick” star.
